Pre-Calculus Class Information Mrs. McDonald Room 532 [email protected]
Materials Required: In addition to the online textbook, every day students need to bring pencils with erasers, graphing calculator (see below), and loose-leaf paper. Please keep ALL homework assignments in a notebook in an organized manner. They make great study guides for chapter tests, and are really helpful when studying for the cumulative final. Also, in case an error occurs in grading, you need them to verify points earned. (I use/demonstrate with the TI-84+ in class or visit www.collegeboard.com to see a list of calculators approved by the AP counsel.)

80% of your grade is determined by your daily assignments, quizzes, and exams. (8% assignments, 72% test and quizzes) A comprehensive final exam will be given at the end of each semester worth 20% of your total semester grade. In person make-up tests must be completed within two weeks of the scheduled test at which time a zero is given. No test retakes will be allowed---be prepared the first time. Assignments are to be completed the class day after assigned. Extra time to complete assignments is given and are due on the date posted on google classroom. Assignments are not accepted after the date posted. Students are responsible for checking their answers in their book or online or checking answers in class. Always come to class with your assignment completed from the previous day. Quizzes are also given and are announced ahead of time.
Attendance: Regular attendance is important for student to succeed. An unexcused absence results in a 0 for work turned in that day. Students are responsible for checking the google classroom for assignments. Expectations: Students are expected to show respect for all, participate in all activities, complete homework assignments on time, and practice and study daily the topics taught for success on formative and summative assessments.
Phone policy: Students cannot learn to their full potential when they are distracted by technology. Therefore, in my class, phones will be put away (i.e.: in a backpack, turned off, or not brought to class). If I see a student's phone, the student will be required to place it on my desk until the end of class.
Help: I am happy to provide extra help and/or practice. Extended Learning Time (ELT), early arrival (7:30 am), or after school are the perfect times for this. If that does not work, please talk to me and we’ll find a time to work together. You are your best advocate! If you need help, ask questions in class and seek assistance at other times when appropriate. Also, I am not the only math teacher in this department--any math teacher at Free State will be glad to help you if I am not available.
Class Rules: Every student is expected to adhere to all school policies . Food is not allowed in class. Once you are in the class you are expected to remain in class. You must ask for permission to leave the class, and this will only be granted at appropriate times. The school policy on tardiness will be followed. Note cards are not allowed on any tests. Students caught cheating in any manner will be given an F for their test. Showing respect for teachers, students, the classroom and your textbook/computer is expected.
Course Topics: This website provides information regarding the AP exam, and content covered in class.
Note: At the teacher’s discretion, elements of this syllabus may change; students will be informed and instructed to make the changes accordingly.
